Author interview by Stef on behalf of Coven Press.
“I really appreciate the freedom to tell a story how I want to tell a story,” Jade Andrews tells Coven Press, reflecting on her creative process as she works on book three of The Pantheon Collection. With her latest book released, she’s back in the depths of writing, revisiting arcs and characters she’d put aside while publishing.
Released in March 2025, Dominion of Death (the second instalment of The Pantheon Collection), picks up in the aftermath of the battle of the gods. As Azraelle’s fate hangs in the balance, instability creeps into the Underworld. A looming war, the weight of the scales of Destiny and fractures in reality hint at something more at play: something – or someone – has been shifting memories and Azraelle is the key.
At the core of the story lies a question of identity, memory and truth. As Azraelle retraces her memories, she must sift through the lies, control and deceit to uncover the truth and confront what has been hidden in the depth of her mind to escape from her fraudulent reality.
“Dominion of Death was difficult, it was a massive learning curve,” Andrews says. “It was learning how to really make myself dive deeper, and what I found was there were things I discovered that were kept secret from even me.” The novel threads the past and present, which are interwoven delicately and purposefully in a way that feels organic and grounded. As is common in Andrews’ work, character-driven storytelling is shown through the depth of human emotion and guides much of the narrative rhythm.
Andrews notes some of the themes mirror her own personal experiences. “There were a few things that hit close to home,” she shares. “Uncovering that, I think, is what made the story really resonate with me and hopefully my readers.” Themes surrounding the self, autonomy and trauma are threaded through the narrative with empathy and care, leading to an emotional authenticity that feels honest and reflective.
Thematically, Jade Andrews’ realism in the exploration of the emotional spectrum, from grief to betrayal, doubt to kindness and even confusion to healing unfolds with a nuance that feels intentional and measured. Each character’s arc holds space, with the internal struggles of the novel mirroring the broader shifts within the story’s mythos. Much like Pantheon of Life, Andrews approaches these themes with sensitivity, experience and vulnerability.
In reflecting on her time as an indie author, Andrews speaks of growth and creative ownership. “I felt like I needed the indie publishing journey to feel like me,” she says. In early 2025, she partnered with Coven Press on Dominion of Death, shaping the book alongside a team that shared her vision. “Working with Coven Press gave me the confidence as an author to make my journey look like what I wanted it to. I knew what I wanted it to be: collaborative,” she says. “It just feels nicer being able to do everything on my terms.”
So what’s next? Andrews laughs. “Lots! I have another book or two left of this series and a few that aren’t even fantasy.” Even with her editor-by-day-author-by-night schedule, she remains involved in the indie publishing landscape, a community that has helped launch her career in every facet. “I have a lot of respect and love for the indie community. They embrace me and support me with every release and I love being a part of this space.”
With an honest dedication to her craft and a desire to explore her own vulnerabilities as an author, Andrews continues to stamp her mark on the fantasy genre. Her reimagining of a pantheon many of us have come to know and love is so evidently personal to her and we’re excited to see what comes next.
Jade Andrews has a Bachelor of Creative Arts and a Master of Arts, majoring in creative and professional writing. Her area of study focused on the societal and cultural influence on genre classification, specifically within the distinction of young adult, adult, fantasy and romance.
Fascination with Greek mythology prompted Jade’s interest in writing The Pantheon Collection but the desire to explore family and relationship dynamics in the theoretical world of magic and immortality was the more significant factor that shaped Jade’s debut novel.
Her passion for and inclusion in the LGBTQI+ community and her support of intersectional feminism drives her to create stories with characters who reflect all corners of our community, while acknowledging that her own voice comes from a position of previous and existing privilege.
