Life is a mystery, but one that on reflection and deep contemplation can be unravelled bit by bit.
On Dark Wings will set you on a journey of self-discovery and reflection to open the doors of wisdom and understanding.
A diverse range of poetic prose.
Darren Neilsen’s first compilation of poems is an evocative and emotive collection, encompassing what Darren describes as his “hopes, fears, regrets, idle dreams, and story ideas [he] was unable to write”. The poems are varied in themes, gathered together from the earlier works of Darren’s poetic years and told through his unique and eloquent voice. Originally published in 2006, On Dark Wings’ pages takes its readers back through formative experiences, significant moments and the inner workings of a younger Neilsen.
Thought-provoking and vivid in its imagery, this collection works to be enjoyed one poem at a time or by immersing yourself in the journey from start to end.

Life is a journey, and the lessons we learn become our past, present and future.
Sometimes, to be lost is just an exercise in finding something deeper, truer, and more real. The soul is something that yearns for us to grow. Maybe it is our greatest Totem.
A diverse range of poetic prose.
Darren Neilsen’s second compilation, Totem, explores the vast and varied experiences and reflections of Neilsen’s last 20 years. Put together following the release of his first in 2006, the collection follows from the end of On Dark Wings through to the contemporary day. With nods to certain poems from the first anthology, readers of both will be sure to find some hidden connections, though the collection stands for itself just as effectively if you have not read the first.
With his captivating voice ever-present in his prose, Neilsen has crafted a stunning collection that hits readers in all the feels, exploring the themes that span a lifetime and bind us all.
Darren Neilsen lives in the Macarthur region, south-west of Sydney, with his wife, their three children and one dog child. He writes poetry and various genres of fantasy, and has published two books of poetic prose, as well as five shorter eBooks, four of which are set in the mythical suburb of Westreach. In his spare time he can be found practising guitar, playing baseball, or reading a good book, but not all at the same time.
